Inclinometer Method
This method can be used with the vehicle over a pit or on a drive-on platform hoist as long as the vehicle is at curb weight with a full tank of gasoline. Before universal joint angles can be checked, measurements specified for distance between the top of the axle tube and the bottom of the frame must be met. To ensure an accurate measurement, cut two 6-inch blocks of wood and place between the axle tube and the frame on both sides. Add weight to the rear compartment until the frame contacts the blocks of wood.
Important: The procedure for measuring the two-piece propeller shaft universal joint angle is essentially the same as it is for the one-piece propeller shaft, but you must take into account the third angle. You must also follow the rule that the working angle of the "odd" joint in a two-piece propeller shaft be 112° or less.
