Shift Interlock Solenoid: Service and Repair
Important:
- The automatic transmission control lever solenoid is part of the brake transmission shift interlock system (BTSI). The solenoid prevents the operator from shifting the automatic transmission control out of "PARK" unless the brake pedal is depressed.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR). Refer to CAUTIONS under "ON-VEHICLE SERVICE" and the SIR Component and Wiring Location View before performing service on or around SIR components or wiring. Failure to follow CAUTIONS could result in possible air bag deployment, personal injury, or otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs.
CAUTION: Before removing or Installing any electrical unit, or when a tool or equivalent could easily come in contact with "live" exposed electrical terminals, disconnect the battery negative cable to help prevent personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or components. Unless instructed otherwise, the ignition switch must be in the "OFF" or "LOCK" position.
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Front floor console trim plate.
3. Wiring harness electrical connector from transmission control lever solenoid (804).
4. Transmission control lever solenoid (804) by unsnapping from transmission control (805).
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Transmission control lever solenoid (804): by snapping to transmission control (805).
2. Wiring harness electrical connector to transmission control lever solenoid (804).
3. Front floor console trim plate.
4. Negative battery cable,
Tighten
- Negative battery cable to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
