Band Apply Servo: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

^ Tool Required:
- J 2971 1A Servo Cover Depressor

1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. 3-way or oxidation catalytic converter and catalytic converter hanger.
3. Propeller shaft.
4. Rear axle torque arm.
5. Support automatic transmission with transmission Jack.
6. Transmission support.
7. Catalytic converter heat shield.
8. Lower automatic transmission.





9. Two automatic transmission oil pan bolts/screws from below servo cover (15).
10. Install J 29714-A on automatic transmission oil pan rail.
11. Reinstall automatic transmission oil pan bolts/screws.
12. Depress servo cover (15) and remove retaining ring (13).
13. Remove J 29714-A from servo cover.
14. Servo cover (15).
- If unable to remove by hand, use slip joint pliers.
- O-ring seal may remain in automatic transmission case.





15. 2-4 band servo (16).

Inspect
- 2-4 band servo.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the correct location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHER WISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on the threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. 2-4 band servo (16).
2. Servo cover (15).
- Replace O-ring seal on servo cover (15).
3. Install J 29714-A on automatic transmission oil pan rail.
4. Depress servo cover (15).
5. Retaining ring (13).
6. Remove J 29714-A.

Tighten
- Transmission oil pan bolts/screws to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).

7. Raise automatic transmission.
8. Catalytic converter heat shield.
9. Transmission support.
10. Remove transmission support.
11. Rear axle torque arm.
12. Propeller shaft.
13. 3-way or oxidation catalytic converter and catalytic converter hanger.
14. Lower vehicle.
