Replacement

Front Brake Caliper:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Two-thirds of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.
2. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
3. Tire and wheel.
4. Reinstall wheel nuts to secure the rotor (1).

Compressing Front Brake Caliper Piston:

5. Push caliper piston (9) into housing bore to provide clearance between pads and rotor (1). Position C-clamp on caliper housing (12) and against outer pad (5). Tighten clamp slowly to press caliper piston (9) into housing bore. If removing the caliper only to access other brake parts, skip step 6. If brake hose fitting (14) is disconnected, caliper must be bled during installation.

Front Brake Caliper Attachment:

6. Brake hose fitting (14), copper gaskets, and brake hose (16) from caliper housing (12), if removing caliper from vehicle. Plug openings in brake hose (16) and caliper housing (12) to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination. Discard copper gaskets.
7. Brake caliper bolts (2).

Suspending Front Brake Caliper:

8. Caliper from rotor (1) and knuckle (18). If caliper is not being removed from vehicle for unit repair, suspend it from front suspension using a fabricated wire hook.
a. Inspect Caliper bolts (2) for corrosion and caliper bolt bushings (3) for cuts and nicks. If damage is found, replace with new parts. Do not attempt to polish away corrosion.
b. Inspect Brake hose fitting (14). If through-hole in fitting (14) is blocked, remove blockage or replace fitting (14).

INSTALL OR CONNECT

Lubricating Front Brake Caliper Bolt And Bushing:

1. Lubricate inner diameters of caliper bolt bushings (3) with silicone grease.
2. Lubricate caliper bolts with silicone grease (2).
a. Inspect Caliper bolts (2) should slide through bolt bushings (3) using only hand pressure. If greater force is required or mechanical assistance is needed, remove caliper bolt (2) along with bushing (3).
b. Inspect Mounting bores for corrosion. If mounting bores show signs of corrosion, remove corrosion using a 1-inch wheel cylinder brush. Clean mounting bores with clean denatured alcohol.
c. Replace bolt bushings. Tighten Front brake caliper bolts (2) to 51 Nm (38 ft. lbs.).
3. Caliper housing (12) onto rotor (1) and knuckle (18).
4. Brake hose fitting (14), new copper gaskets, and brake hose (16) to caliper housing (12), if removed. Tighten Front brake hose fitting (14) to 44 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
5. Remove wheel nuts securing rotor (1).
6. Tire and wheel.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Fill master cylinder reservoir to proper level. If brake hose (16) was removed, bleed caliper.
