DTC C1213 ABS Active Indicator Circuit Malfunction (Part 3 Of 3):

ABS Active Indicator Schematic:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This DTC checks the state of the ABS active indicator (LOW TRAC) to identify a situation in which the driver could not be warned of a low traction event by the ABS active indicator, or the ABS active indicator is always on. The EBCM provides a ground through CKT 1537 to turn the ABS active indicator on. If the control line, CKT 1537 is open or shorted to voltage the ABS active indicator will always be off. If the control line, CKT 1537 is shorted to ground, the ABS active indicator is on when the ignition is in the RUN position.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
DTC C1213 only can be set during the three second bulb check or when the indicator is commanded on. If the EBCM cannot control the ABS active indicator (LOW TRAC) for two seconds, a malfunction exists.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
A malfunction DTC is stored, however, ABS is not disabled.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation. The lamp test function of the scan tool may be used to command the ABS active indicator on while looking for an intermittent malfunction in the ABS active indicator (LOW TRAC) circuitry. The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the scan tool, as described in Scan Tool Diagnostics found in this section. Any circuitry that is suspected of causing the intermittent complaint should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring harness.

NOTE: J 39200 test leads must be zeroed prior to making any resistance measurements.
