REPLACEMENT
NOTE: Do not remove rear storage compartment panel opening cover to replace modulator valve.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove rear storage compartment door and frame assembly.
3. Remove sound insulator pad.
4. On models equipped with selective ride control, disconnect wiring harness with selective ride control module.
5. Disconnect brake pipes from modulator valve, noting pipe position.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Remove modulator valve bracket to underbody cover attaching bolts, Fig. 83.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Disconnect ground wire from modulator valve.
10. Remove valve from bracket.
11. Remove pump motor and solenoid valve relays.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque modulator valve attaching nuts and valve bracket to underbody cover attaching bolts to 86 inch lbs.
b. Ensure brake pipes are correctly connected to valve. If brake pipes are switched, wheel lock-up will occur and personal injury may result.
c. Torque valve brake pipes to 13 ft. lbs.
d. Use only DOT 3 brake fluid, do not use silicone brake fluid or system damage will result.
e. Ensure sound insulator pad covers valve or excessive system noise may result.
