3T40 (125/125C) Automatic Transaxle

^ Tools Required:
- J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
- J 35944 Cooler Flushing Tool





REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Intake air duct.
3. TV cable, refer to "TV Cable Replacement."
4. Shift cable and bracket.
5. Vacuum lines.
6. Electrical connections.
7. Power steering pump and set aside. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
8. Filler tube.
9. Install engine support fixture J 28467-360.
10. Top engine to transaxle bolts.
11. Raise and support the vehicle.
12. Both front tire and wheel assemblies.
13. Left splash shield.
14. Both front ABS wheel speed-sensors and harness from left suspension support.
15. Both lower ball joints.
16. Stabilizer shaft links.
17. Front air deflector.
18. Left suspension support.
19. Both drive axles.





20. Engine to transaxle brace.
21. Transaxle converter cover.
22. Starter, refer to Starting and Charging.
23. Flywheel to torque converter bolts.
24. Transaxle cooler pipes.
25. Ground wires from engine to transaxle bolt.
26. Cooler pipe brace.
27. Exhaust brace.
28. Bolts from engine and transaxle mount.
29. Support transaxle with a jack.
30. Transaxle mount to body bolts.
31. Heater core hose pipe brace to transaxle nut and bolt.
32. Remaining engine to transaxle bolts.
33. Transaxle assembly.

Inspect
For inspection and overhaul procedures, refer to Unit Repair.

Clean
Transaxle cooler and lines should be flushed with J 35944 or equivalent whenever the transaxle has been removed for overhaul or replacement of the torque converter, pump or case. Refer to "Transaxle Cooler" for flushing the oil cooler and lines.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Place a thin film of grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent on the torque converter pilot knob.
- Make sure to properly seat the torque converter in the oil pump.
2. Transaxle assembly into position with jack while installing right drive axle.





3. Lower engine to transaxle bolts in their proper location, refer to the image.





4. Transaxle mount to body bolts, refer to the image.
5. Engine and transaxle mount bolts.
6. Exhaust brace.
7. Cooler pipe brace.
8. Ground wires at engine to transaxle bolt.
9. Transaxle cooler pipes.
10. Apply adhesive/sealant compound GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent on flywheel to torque converter bolts and install bolts.
11. Transaxle converter cover.
12. Starter, refer to Starting and Charging.
13. Engine to transaxle brace.
14. Drive axles.
15. Left suspension support.
16. Front air deflector.
17. Stabilizer shaft links.
18. Lower ball joints.
19. Connect both ABS wheel speed sensors.
20. Left splash shield.
21. Heater core pipe brace nut and bolt.
22. Both tire and wheel assemblies, refer to Steering and Suspension.
23. Lower vehicle.
24. Top engine to transaxle bolts in their proper location.

Important
- Install the bolts in their proper location.

25. Remove Engine support fixture J 28467-360.
26. Filler tube.
27. Power steering pump assembly and adjust belt. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
28. Electrical connections.
29. Vacuum lines.
30. Shift cable and bracket.
31. TV cable, refer to "TV Cable Replacement."
32. Intake air duct.
33. Negative battery cable.
34. Fill transaxle, refer to "Transaxle Oil Level Checking Procedure."

Adjust
- TV cable, refer to "TV Cable Adjustment."
- Shift linkage.
