Thermostat: Service and Repair



Thermostat & Housing:






NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL (orange-colored, silicate-free) coolant meeting GM Specification 6277M. if silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. in addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner - at 50,000 Km (30,000 miles) or 24 months.


Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Drain and recover coolant until level is below thermostat.
3. Radiator outlet pipe attaching bolts.
4. Outlet.
5. Thermostat.

Clean

^ Radiator outlet mating surfaces.

Install or Connect

1. Thermostat.
2. Radiator outlet.
3. Attaching bolts.

Tighten

^ Torque thermostat housing retaining nuts to 14 Nm (124 lb. in.).

4. Engine coolant. Refill and bleed cooling system as needed.
5. Negative battery cable.

Inspect

^ For leaks.
