Cooler Pipe

Power Steering Hose Routing:

Tools Required:
J28467-A Engine Support Fixture
J28467-90 Adapters
J36462 Adapter Leg

Remove or Disconnect

1. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
2. Install J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
4. Left and right wheel and tire assemblies.
5. Electrical connection from steering gear pressure switch.

CAUTION: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

6. Intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt at steering gear.
7. Loosen right side engine splash shield.
8. Both left and right sides tie rod nuts and tie rods, from steering knuckle.
9. Exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly.
10. Engine and transaxle mount nuts at frame.
11. Power steering cooler line retaining clamps from frame.
12. Support rear frame, using jackstands.
13. Rear frame retaining bolts.
14. Lower frame 76.2 mm (3 inches).
15. Steering gear heat shield.
16. Power steering lines clamps from steering gear assembly.
17. Power steering return hose from cooler pipe.
18. Cooler pipe from steering gear.
19. Cooler pipe.

Install or Connect

1. Cooler pipe.
2. Cooler pipe to steering gear.
3. Power steering return hose and clamp to cooler tighten clamp.
4. Power steering lines clamp to steering gear assembly.
5. Steering gear heat shield and screws.

Tighten
^ Screws to 6 N.m (54 lb. in.).

6. Raise frame assembly and align steering gear stub shaft to intermediate shaft.
7. Both frame bolts.
8. Remove jack stand from frame.
9. Power steering cooler pipe retaining clamps to frame.
10. Engine and transaxle mount retaining nuts to frame.
11. Exhaust pipe and converter.
12. Both tie rod ends and nuts to steering knuckles.
13. Tighten right side engine splash shield.

CAUTION: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation . If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

14. Intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt.
15. Electrical connection to steering gear pressure switch.
16. Both front wheels and tire assemblies.
17. Lower vehicle.
18. Remove J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
19. Air cleaner and duct assembly.

Adjust
^ Bleed power steering system.

Inspect
^ For leaks.
