Throttle Cable/Linkage: Service and Repair

ACCELERATOR CABLE

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Lower instrument panel trim attaching screws, retaining clip and lower instrument panel trim.
2. Accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
3. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the cable through the dash panel (bulkhead).
4. Accelerator cam splash shield.

CAUTION: The throttle body cam is spring loaded. Care should be taken not to damage accelerator cable cam on throttle body when removing cable.

5. Turn throttle body accelerator cam counterclockwise and hold.
a. Accelerator cable end slug from throttle body accelerator cam.
b. Slowly release throttle body accelerator cam.
c. Slide accelerator cable out of accelerator/cruise control cable bracket.

6. Accelerator cable from routing clips.

CAUTION: To prevent possible interference or damage, flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must not be routed within 50 mm (2.0 in.) of moving parts, unless routing is positively controlled.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. lubricate the throttle body lever with GM P/N 1052541 or equivalent
2. Accelerator cable through routing clips.
3. Slide accelerator cable out of accelerator/cruise control cable bracket.
4. Turn throttle body accelerator cam counterclockwise and hold.
a. Accelerator cable end slug into throttle body accelerator cam.
b. Slowly release throttle body accelerator cam.
5. Accelerator cam splash shield.
6. Accelerator cable through the dash panel (bulkhead).
7. Accelerator cable to the accelerator pedal.
8. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal. The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.
9. Lower instrument panel trim, attaching screws, retaining clip and lower instrument panel trim.
10. Apply a heavy bodied sealer around the accelerator cable at the engine compartment side of the dash panel (bulkhead).

ACCELERATOR PEDAL

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Lower instrument panel trim attaching screws, retaining clip and lower instrument panel.
2. Accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
3. Accelerator pedal attaching nut, screw and accelerator pedal.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Accelerator pedal assembly in position, install the attaching nut and screw.

NOTE: The mounting surface between support and dash panel must be free of insulation. The carpet and padding in pedal and tunnel area must be positioned to lay flat and be free of wrinkles and bunches.

2. Accelerator cable on accelerator pedal.
3. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal. The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.
4. Lower instrument panel trim, attaching screws and retaining clip.
