Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair






Remove or Disconnect
1. Crankcase front cover.
2. Align crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket.
3. Timing chain tensioner bolt.
4. Loosen torx bolt.
5. Camshaft sprocket and timing chain.
6. Torx bolt and tensioner assembly.

Important
^ Timing chain tensioner is spring loaded and requires some care when installing.

Install or Connect
1. While compressing spring, use a suitable tool (cotter pin, nail) and insert in hole.
2. Tensioner and torx bolt, DO NOT tighten.





3. Align crankshaft and camshaft timing marks with "tabs" on tensioner.
4. Camshaft sprocket and timing chain, be sure timing marks are aligned.

Tighten
^ Tensioner bolts to 24 N.m (18 lb. ft.).
^ Camshaft sprocket bolt to 105 N.m (77 lb. ft.).

5. Remove tool used to hold tensioner spring compressed.
6. Crankcase front cover.
