Oil Pan: Service and Repair






Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Drain crankcase.
4. Starter bracket at block, remove starter and lay aside.
5. Flywheel cover.
6. Oil filter.
^ Be sure gasket is removed with filter.
7. Oil pan bolts and nuts.
8. Oil pan.
Clean
^ Sealing surfaces on the pan, cylinder case and front cover. Make sure old RTV is removed from blind attaching holes.

Install or Connect

1. Place a 2 mm (0.079 inch) diameter bead of GM P/N 1052914 RTV sealer (or equivalent) on the oil pan to block side sealing flanges.
2. Apply GM P/N 1052914 RTV sealer (or equivalent) to oil pan surface which fits to engine front cover.
3. Using a new oil pan rear seal, apply a thin coat of GM P/N 1052914 RTV sealer or equivalent) on ends down to ears, install pan against cylinder case and install bolts.
4. Oil pan with bolts and nuts.

Tighten
^ Bolts and nuts to 14 N.m (124 lb. in.).

5. Oil filter.
^ Lubricate new oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.

Tighten
^ Oil filter to 17 N.m (13 lb. ft.).

6. Starter.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Fill crankcase with engine oil.
9. Negative battery cable.

Tighten
^ Bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb. ft.).
