DESCRIPTION
The Camshaft Sensor is a hall-effect switch mounted on the left cylinder head.

OPERATION
A 12 volt current is supplied to the camshaft sensor from the ignition. A voltage signal is sent along the signal line to the ECM when #1 cylinder is on the compression stroke. This signal is used to identify the cylinder cycles so fuel injection can be synchronized with the opening of the intake valves (sequentially.) If the ECM does not detect a camshaft signal, fuel injection will still be sequential, but will not be timed correctly with the intake valves. If the cam signal is lost or extra signals are detected above 500 rpm, a code 31 will set.
