Subject:
DOOR OUTER PANEL CRACKING AT REAR

Model and Year:
1993 CAMARO

CONDITION:
Some 1993 Camaros may show cracks in the door outer panels. These cracks may appear at the top edge of the outer panel, approximately 1-1/2" forward of the rear edge.

CAUSE:
This may occur when excessive force is used to install the outer belt sealing strip to the door at the rear, due to an unsupported area of the outer panel between the rear hem bond and the outer panel reinforcement.

CORRECTION:
Add structural adhesive to the areas between:
1. The rear hem bond and the outer panel reinforcement, AND
2. The outer panel and outer reinforcement as shown in the illustration to provide support using GM P/N 12345726 Structural Bonding Epoxy or equivalent.

Procedure:
1. Remove the door trim panel, mirror and applique assembly.
2. Remove the outer belt sealing strip and rear belt seal.

3. Apply GM P/N 12345726 or equivalent to the areas shown in the illustration.
4. While the material is drying, repair the damage to the outer panel using the same GM Structural Bonding Epoxy (or equivalent) and the procedures and techniques found in the Service Manual, Section 10- 1, General Body Service.
5. After the damage is repaired, refinish the area as required.
6. Reinstall all previously removed hardware and trim.
