Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
EVAP Emission Circuit:
Purpose:
Allows manifold vacuum to purge fuel vapor canister. Burns stored fuel vapors.
Operation:
To regulate the canister purge, an ECM controlled electronic vacuum valve solenoid is used. The ECM uses information from various sensors to regulate the solenoid. If the following conditions are met with the engine running, the canister purge solenoid is energized:
^ Coolant Temperature is above 60°C (140°F).
^ Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is above 2 mph.
^ Throttle off idle, above 1.6%
Location:
The canister purge solenoid is located on the right side of the intake manifold.
