Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air intake duct, then remove serpentine drive belt.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove engine mount nuts.
4. Remove power steering fluid cooler.
5. Attach suitable engine lifting device, then raise engine slightly to provide tool access to damper attaching bolts.
6. Remove damper to hub attaching bolts, then remove damper, Fig. 8.
7. Disconnect power steering line from steering gear.
8. Place alignment marks on damper hub and front cover for use during installation. After placing alignment marks on hub and front cover do not rotate crankshaft, as an engine imbalance may result.
9. Remove crankshaft hub bolt and washer, then remove crankshaft hub using tool No. J39046 or equivalent.
10. Reverse procedure to install. If crankshaft was accidentally rotated after placing alignment marks, position No. 1 cylinder at top dead center, then install hub with arrow casting at 12 O'clock position. If a replacement damper is to be installed, balance weights of the same size as the original damper must be install in the same locations on the new damper.
