Service Procedure
1. Using a refractometer-type coolant tester (J-26568, J-23688 or J-3S633), check concentration of coolant in vehicle following the procedure on page 6B-9 of the 1993 Chevrolet Corsica/Beretta Service Manual (Book 1). Follow directions of the manufacturer of the coolant tester being used. Unless the tester being used has a provision for temperature correction, test the engine at the same temperature the tester is calibrated for.2. If coolant test indicates freeze protection of -34°F to -54°F (-37°C to -48°C), the coolant is correctly diluted and no further service is necessary. Proceed to step 5.
If coolant test indicates a freeze protection other than -34°F to -54°F (-37°C to -48°C), the cooling system should be drained, flushed and refilled. Continue to step 3 below.
3. Drain, flush and refill cooling system. It is recommended that a
50-50 mixture of engine coolant and water be used in the cooling system unless local conditions call for higher levels of coolant (i.e. northern areas with extreme cold weather conditions).
NOTICE:
DO NOT USE ANY SOLUTION THAT IS MORE THAN 70% COOLANT.
Use GM Engine Coolant (P/N 01052753) or equivalent coolant meeting GM specification 1825-M.
Cooling system capacities for the different engines are shown in the table.
4. Run vehicle until normal operating temperature is reached to be certain coolant is thoroughly mixed and test coolant concentration per service manual procedure on page 6B-9 (use same coolant tester used in step 1). Adjust coolant concentration as necessary to reach recommended freeze protection level.
5. Install Campaign Identification Label.
