Timing Chain and Sprocket
Tools Required:
J 22888-20 Puller
J 5590 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer
Remove or Disconnect
1. Crankcase front cover.
2. Align marks on crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket.
3. Timing chain tensioner upper bolt.
4. Loosen timing chain tensioner torx bolt, but DO NOT remove.
5. Camshaft sprocket and timing chain.
6. Crankshaft sprocket using tool J 22888-20.
Install or Connect
1. Crankshaft sprocket using tool J 5590.
Important
^ Be sure sprocket is fully seated against crankshaft.
2. Compress tensioner spring, and using suitable tool (cotter pin, nail) insert tool into hole.
3. Align crankshaft and camshaft timing marks with "tabs" on tensioner.
4. Tensioner bolt.
5. Timing chain on camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.
6. Align dowel in camshaft with dowel hole in camshaft sprocket, then install sprocket on camshaft.
7. Hand assemble and fully seat the camshaft sprocket onto camshaft using the mounting bolt.
Tighten
^ Timing chain tensioner bolts to 24 Nm (18 lb. ft.).
^ Camshaft sprocket bolt to 105 Nm (77 lb. ft.).
8. Remove timing chain tensioner pin.
9. Crankcase front cover.
