ASE No.: A2
Subject: DELAYED ENGAGEMENT IN DRIVE/REVERSE
Model and Year: 1991-92 LUMINA AND LUMINA (APV) WITH 4T60/4T60E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
The above condition could be caused by a rolled or cut input clutch piston outer seal. The initial comment is often a delay in drive cold. The condition will sometimes develop into a no/delay drive or reverse cold and delay hot over a 2000-5000 mile range. If this condition is encountered, it is recommended that the input clutch piston outer seal be replaced.
NOTE: An air check of the piston as a diagnostic aid could be misleading.
Refer to the service manual diagnostic section for other causes of delayed engagement. GM Powertrain is currently performing a root cause analysis on this condition.
