CONDITION:
Some owners of 1992 Chevrolet Beretta and Corsicas, built prior to VIN breakpoint PY240000, may experience I/P squeaks under various road conditions.

CAUSE:
These squeaks may be caused by upper I/P screw to insulator panel interference or mounting boss grounding causing an "itch" sound.

CORRECTION:

1. Remove Instrument Panel as outlined in the 1992 Service Manual Section 8C.

2. Remove defroster duct.

3. Remove defroster duct insulation.





4. With a blunt punch, reposition both sound insulator panels to prevent contact with upper I/P screws (Figure 1). Reposition sound insulator panels outward far enough to avoid contact with screws.

5. Apply a 76 mm x 127 mm (3"x 5") felt strip to front of dash as shown in Figure.

6. Apply a 15 mm x 30 mm (5/8"x 1 1/8") felt strip to each of the I/P upper screw bosses as shown in Figure.

7. Reinstall defroster duct insulation.

8. Reinstall defroster duct.

9. Reinstall Instrument Panel using 4 revised upper I/P screws, P/N 22551372.
