Lights - Inoperative Courtesy Lamp, Fuse Blown

Number: 92-335-8A

Section: 8A

Date: DEC. 1992

Corporate Bulletin No.: 238122

ASE No.: A6

Subject: INOPERATIVE COURTESY LIGHTS

Model and Year: 1992 CAPRICE POLICE OPTION 9C1 ONLY

CONDITION:

On the 1992 "B" Car with Police Option 9C1 and Emergency Vehicle Rear Compartment Lid Lamp Assembly Option T53, the trunk lamp connector in the rear body harness is not used. The terminal in the connector may touch the trunk lock rod mechanism, causing a high resistance in the circuit. This high resistance could cause the wire insulation to melt, and eventually short out, blowing the courtesy light fuse.

CAUSE:

The trunk lamp connector in the body harness is not used with the T53 option in 1992. With the T53 option, the connector was supposed to be taped to the harness, but was not in early production. This was corrected with VIN's NRl 27103 at Arlington, and WRl 29030 at Willow Run.

CORRECTION:

1. Inspect the body harness wiring in the area shown in the illustration for signs of melting or rubbing. Repair as needed.

2. Cut the loose connector off the wire in the area shown. Tape the bare end of the wire, then tape the wire to the harness as shown. Make sure that the wire will not be caught by any moving part, or rub on any metal edge.
