Disassemble






NOTE: A press with 40,000 lbs. capacity is required to service countershaft.

1. Remove 4th gear input shaft, pocket bearing, 4th gear synchronizer ring then 3-4 synchronizer sleeve.

2. Remove pressure piece, synchronizer detent balls, then synchronizer detent springs.

3. Remove snap ring from output shaft.

4. Place output shaft input end up in a press. Press 3-4 synchronizer body and 3rd gear from output shaft using split plate tool No. J 22912-01 or equivalent.

5. Remove 3rd synchronizer ring, then 3rd gear bearing assembly.

6. Place output shaft output end up in press. Press off output shaft output bearing and race using split plate tool No. J 22912-01 or equivalent.

7. Remove snap ring and washer from output shaft.

8. Remove reverse synchronizer sleeve. When removing sleeve, wrap a shop towel around synchronizer sleeve to prevent detent balls from becoming lost.

9. Remove pressure piece, synchronizer detent balls, then synchronizer detent springs.

10. Secure output shaft, output end up in a press, then press reverse synchronizer, 1st gear, and reverse gear from output shaft using split plate tool No. J 36513 or equivalent.

11. Remove reverse synchronizer ring, reverse gear needle bearing assembly, thrust washer, then 1st gear needle bearing assembly.

12. Remove 1st gear synchronizer internal ring, synchronizer intermediate ring, then synchronizer ring.

13. Remove 1-2 synchronizer sleeve. When removing sleeve, wrap a shop towel around synchronizer sleeve to prevent detent balls from becoming lost.

14. Remove selective snap ring, then press 1-2 synchronizer body and 2nd gear from output shaft using split plate tool No. J 36513 or equivalent.

15. Remove 2nd gear synchronizer ring, synchronizer intermediate ring, synchronizer internal ring then needle bearing assembly.
