UPPER BALL JOINT
1. Raise and support front of vehicle, then position jack stands under lower control arms.
2. Position a suitable dial indicator against wheel rim, Fig. 2.
3. Move wheel inward and outward, while observing dial indicator reading. Indicator reading should not exceed .125 inch.
4. Replace upper ball joint if looseness is indicated.
LOWER BALL JOINT
Lower ball joints are equipped with with visual wear indicators. When checking, vehicle must be supported by wheel and tire assemblies to maintain load on ball joints. Refer to Fig. 3.
