Ignition Lock Cylinder
Fig. 9 Ignition Lock Replacement. 1990-92:
1. To avoid personal injury when servicing models equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Airbag) System, temporarily disarm system. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove steering wheel as described under STEERING WHEEL AND HORN SOUNDER.
4. Remove turn signal switch as described under TURN SIGNAL SWITCH.
5. Place ignition switch in Lock position.
6. Remove lock cylinder retaining screw.
7. Disconnect terminal electrical connector at bulkhead connection to provide slack.
8. Remove wiring connector from steering column.
9. Attach a suitable length of mechanic wire to ignition lock electrical connector for use during installation. Detach wire retaining clip, then carefully pull ignition lock wiring through housing shroud, steering column and lock housing cover, Fig. 9.
10. Remove lock cylinder.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Ensure lock cylinder wiring is properly routed through steering column. Torque lock cylinder retaining screw to 22 lb in
12. After completing service procedure activate Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Airbag) System. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
