ACCELERATOR CONTROL CABLE

REMOVAL:

1. Remove the lower instrument panel trim attaching screws, retaining clip and lower instrument panel trim.
^ Partially drop the lower instrument panel trim and disconnect the courtesy light.
2. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
3. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the cable through the dash panel (bulkhead).
4. Remove the accelerator cable routing strap.
5. Release the accelerator cable clip and remove the accelerator cable.

NOTE: The accelerator cam is made of steel and is spring loaded. Care should be taken not to damage the accelerator cable cam on the throttle body when removing the cable.

6. Turn the accelerator cable cam clockwise and hold.
^ Slide the accelerator cable off the accelerator cam and slowly release the cam.
7. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the cable through the accelerator cable bracket.

INSTALLATION:

NOTE:

^ Use care when pressing the retainer into the hole in the rod to ensure that the cable is not kinked or damaged in any way.
^ To prevent possible interference, flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must be not routed within 50 mm (2") of moving parts unless routing is positively controlled.

1. Reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the throttle pedal. The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.

2. Apply a heavy bodied sealer around the accelerator cable at the engine compartment side of the dash panel (bulkhead).

ACCELERATOR PEDAL REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL:

1. Remove the lower instrument panel trim attaching screws, retaining clip and lower instrument panel trim.
^ Partially drop the lower instrument panel trim and disconnect the courtesy light.
2. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
3. Remove the accelerator pedal attaching nuts and accelerator pedal.

INSTALLATION:

NOTE: The mounting surface between the support and dash panel must be free of insulation. The carpet and padding in pedal and tunnel area must be positioned to lay flat and be free of wrinkles and bunches.

1. Install the accelerator pedal and attaching nuts, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb.in).
2. Install the accelerator cable on the accelerator pedal.
^ Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
^ The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.
3. Install the courtesy light to the lower instrument panel trim.
^ Install the lower instrument panel trim, lower instrument panel attaching screws and retaining clip.
