Lateral Accelerometer: Description and Operation

The lateral acceleration switch is made up of two mercury switches connected in series. They are used to detect if the vehicle is cornering faster than a predetermined curve speed. When this speed is exceeded, one of two switches opens up and sends a signal to control module.
The lateral acceleration switch is located under the A/C control head on the floor pan. This switch is not serviceable and should be replaced as an assembly.
