GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT SEATS IN CERTAIN 1991 CHEVROLET CAMARO'S FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) 2079 "SEATING SYSTEMS". THIS IS A RESULT OF THE FRONT SEAT UPPER HINGE TRIM COVER LOWER SCREW BEING TOO LONG. THIS INCORRECT LOWER SCREW COULD INTERFERE WITH THE ACTION OF THE SEAT BACK INERTIA LOCKING MECHANISM AND COULD PREVENT THE SEAT BACK FROM LOCKING PROPERLY IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE IMPACT.
TO PREVENT THIS CONDITION FROM OCCURRING, DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE THE UPPER HINGE TRIM COVER SCREWS ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES WITH CORRECT LENGTH SCREWS.

THIS BULLETIN IS NOTICE TO YOU THAT THE NEW MOTOR VEHICLES INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN MAY NOT COMPLY WITH THE STANDARD IDENTIFIED ABOVE. UNDER SECTION 108 OF THE NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT, IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A DEALER TO SELL A NEW MOTOR VEHICLE WHICH THE DEALER KNOWS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH AN APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD. AS A CONSEQUENCE, IF YOU SELL ANY OF THESE MOTOR VEHICLES WITHOUT FIRST PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION, YOUR DEALERSHIP MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CIVIL PENALTY UP TO $1,000 FOR EACH SUCH SALE.
OWNER NOTICATION
NO OWNER LETTER WILL BE SENT SINCE THE INVOLVED VEHICLES SHOULD BE IN DEALER NEW VEHICLE INVENTORY. IF ANY UNITS HAVE BEEN DELIVERED OR DEALER TRANSFERRED, PLEASE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT RESPECTIVE PURCHASER OR DEALER TO HAVE THE CAMPAIGN REPAIRS PERFORMED.
PARTS INFORMATION
PARTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN ARE BEING SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO INVOLVED DEALERS ON MAY 3, 1991. THE PACKAGES BEING SHIPPED WILL CONTAIN 5 REPLACEMENT SCREWS OF PROPER LENGTH. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE ANY SCREWS FOR THESE REPLACEMENT PARTS.
