Oil Pan: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Drain the crankcase.
5. Remove starter bracket, and the starter.
6. Remove flywheel inspection cover.
7. Remove four right side support bolts, then slightly lower the support.
8. On models with automatic transaxle, remove oil filter and extension.
9. On all models, remove twelve bolts and two nuts retaining the oil pan, Fig. 13.
10. Remove oil pan and gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Ensure oil pan mating surfaces are thoroughly clean.
2. Apply a 1/8 inch diameter bead of suitable sealer on the oil pan to engine block sealing flanges.
3. Apply suitable sealer on the oil pan to front cover mating surface.
4. Apply suitable sealer on ends to the ears of a new oil pan rear seal.
5. Install oil pan to engine block. Refer to Fig. 13 for torque values.
6. On models with automatic transaxle, install oil filter adapter with a new seal, then the oil filter.
7. On all models, install exhaust pipe to manifold.
8. Install right side support with attaching bolts.
9. Install starter.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Refill crankcase.
12. Connect battery ground cable.
