Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Fig. 62 Wheel Speed Sensors:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove sensor electrical connector from bracket, then disconnect sensor connector.
4. Remove sensor wire grommets from brackets, noting sensor wire routing for reassembly.
5. Remove sensor to knuckle attaching bolts, then the sensor, Fig. 62.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Coat new wheel speed sensor with anti-corrosion compound No. 9981128, or equivalent prior to installation.
b. Do not use hammer to install sensor.
c. On 1989 models, torque sensor attaching bolts to 7 ft. lbs. On 1990-91 models, torque sensor attaching bolt to 89 inch. lbs.
