Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Crankshaft Pulley And Hub:
Timing Cover:
SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalents)
^ J-24420, Crankshaft hub puller.
^ J-29113, Crankshaft hub installer.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery ground cable.
2. Serpentine drive belt and tensioner.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Right front wheel and inner fender splash shield.
5. Oil pan, refer to Oil Pan / Service and Repair.
6. Crankshaft pulley and hub using tool J-24420.
7. Engine front cover retaining bolts and front cover. If the cover is difficult to remove, use a rubber mallet to loosen.
8. Clean sealing surface of front cover and engine block.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New gasket.
2. Front cover over dowel pins and torque bolts to 8-14 Nm (6-10 ft lbs).
3. Apply RTV sealant GM P/N 1052917 or equivalent to the keyway in crankshaft hub.
4. Crankshaft hub in position over key on crankshaft and install using tool J-29113.
^ Install J-29113 into crankshaft so that at least 6mm of thread is engaged.
^ Pull hub into position and remove J-29113 from hub.
5. Crankshaft pulley.
6. Oil pan.
7. Inner fender splash shield and right front wheel.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Tensioner and serpentine drive belt.
10. Battery ground cable.
