Engine: Service and Repair
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE disconnect battery and drain cooling system.
2. Remove air intake hose.
3. Disconnect accelerator and TV cables at throttle body.
4. Disconnect ECM wiring on engine.
5. Disconnect any vacuum hoses interfering with engine removal.
6. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses at engine.
7. Remove exhaust heat shield.
8. On vehicles equipped with A/C, remove adjustment bolt at engine mount.
9. On all vehicles, disconnect engine wiring harness at bulkhead.
10. Remove windshield washer reservoir.
11. Remove serpentine belt.
12. Disconnect fuel lines. Place shop towel over fuel line and fitting when disconnecting.
13. Raise and support vehicle, then remove inner fender splash shield.
14. On vehicles equipped with A/C, remove A/C compressor and position aside.
15. On all models, remove flywheel splash shield and disconnect starter wiring.
16. Disconnect front starter brace and remove starter.
17. On vehicles with automatic transaxles, remove torque converter bolts.
18. On all models, remove crankshaft pulley using puller tool No. J-24420-B or equivalent.
19. Remove engine oil and oil filter.
20. Disconnect engine to transmission bracket and right rear engine mount.
21. Disconnect exhaust at manifold and center hanger. Loosen muffler hanger.
22. On vehicles with automatic transaxles, disconnect TV and shift cable bracket.
23. On all models, remove lower bellhousing bolts.
24. Disconnect accelerator and TV cable at intake manifold, then lower vehicle.
25. Remove right front engine mount nuts.
26. Remove alternator and adjusting bracket.
27. Disconnect master cylinder and position aside.
28. Attach suitable lifting device to engine.
29. Remove right front engine mount bracket.
30. Remove upper bellhousing bolts.
31. Lift engine and remove power steering pump, if so equipped.
32. Remove engine.
33. Lower engine into vehicle.
34. Install upper bellhousing bolts and left front engine mount nuts.
35. Reverse removal procedure to install.
