RECAP 89C18:

It has been determined that certain 1989 Chevrolet Caprice police and taxi cab fleets may experience fatigue of the air conditioning condenser inlet pipe. The compressor discharge hose/pipe assembly is too short and stiff to absorb engine roll and compressor vibration.

The fatigue resulting from this condition may lead to breakage of the inlet pipe, causing the discharge of the system's Freon and loss of vehicle air conditioning.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers will install a new compressor discharge hose/pipe assembly and, if necessary, a new condenser.

The attached prorate indicates the number of vehicles involved in each Branch.
CFC-12 (Chlorofluorocarbons) recycling equipment, as referenced by Chevrolet Dealer Service Bulletin 89-253-1B dated September, 1989, is recommended in performing necessary campaign repairs. Your assistance in reminding dealer service personnel to utilize these procedures is requested.

Parts required to complete this Campaign are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO).
