WHEEL TILT SPRING, SHAFT & HOUSING ASSEMBLY
JACKET BUSHING ASSEMBLY
NOTICE: Steps 1 through 16 may be performed with the steering column in the vehicle. If the shaft and housing assembly (11)is to be serviced (steps 17 through 21), remove the steering column from vehicle before proceeding with the following steps.

Housing Cover And Turn Switch Removal:
Buzzer Switch Wires, Removal:
Pivot Pin Removal:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
Tools Required:
J 35689-A Terminal Remover.
J 21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover.
1. Retainer (1) and jam nut (2).
2. Steering wheel.
3. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (7).
4. Hazard knob screw (6).
5. Hazard warning knob (5).
IMPORTANT
Position turn signal switch (9) so that turn signal switch screws (8) and housing cover screw (3) can be removed through openings in switch.
6. Rousing cover screw (3).
7. Column housing cover (4).
8. Actuator screw (18).
9. Dimmer switch actuator (17).
^ For cruise option disconnect wire connector.
10. Turn signal switch screws (8).
11. Wires on buzzer switch assembly (21) from turn signal connector with J 35689-A as shown. Wrap wire ends with tape to protect during removal and installation.
12. Turn signal switch assembly (9).
13. Pull shoe release lever (19) and tilt column all the way up.
14. Insert screwdriver into square opening in spring retainer (13), push down and turn left to release retainer (13) and wheel tilt spring (14).
15. Spring retainer (13), tilt spring (14) and tilt spring guide(15).
16. Shoe pin retaining cap (10).
17. Two pivot pins (12) with J 21854-01 as shown.
18. Place lock cylinder (25) in 'Run" position.
19. Pull shoe release lever (19) to release shaft and housing assembly (11).
20. Shaft and housing assembly (11) from steering column bowl and jacket assembly (24).
21. Twist and pull jacket bushing assembly (32) from lower end of the bowl and jacket assembly (24).
IMPORTANT
All fasteners in the following steps must be firmly seated before being tightened to specified torque.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Align tab on jacket bushing assembly (32) with V-groove on lower end of bowl and jacket assembly (24) and snap into position.
2. Place lock cylinder (25) in "Run' position and install shaft and housing assembly (11) into bowl and jacket assembly (24) while holding tilt lever (19) in the "Release" position.
3. Lubricate pivot pins (12) with lithium grease.
^ Two pivot pins (12) until flush with shaft and housing assembly (11).
4. Pull shoe release lever (19) and tilt column all the way up.
5. Lubricate tilt spring guide (15) with lithium grease.
^ Tilt spring guide (15) into tilt spring (14).
6. Guide (15) and tilt spring (14) with spring retainer (13) as follows:
^ Be sure that recess in spring guide (15) engages round locating tab in column bowl and jacket assembly (24).
^ Insert screwdriver into square opening in spring retainer (13), push down and turn right to lock in place.
7. Turn signal switch assembly (9).
IMPORTANT
Position turn signal switch (9) so that turn signal switch screws (8) and housing cover screw (3) can be installed through openings in switch.
8. Turn signal switch screws (8) and torque to 4 Nm (35 Lbs. In.).
9. Wires from buzzer switch assembly (21) to signal switch connector body as follows:
^ Light green wire in location F.
^ Tan/black wire in location 0.
10. Dinner actuator assembly (17).
11. Actuator screw (18) and torque to 2.3 Nm (20 Lbs. In.).
12. Shoe pin retaining cap (10).
13. Column housing cover (4).
14. Hazard warning knob (5).
15. Hazard knob screw (6) and torque to 0.8 Nm (7 Lbs. In.).
16. Housing cover screw (3) and torque to 4 Nm (35 Lbs. In.).
17. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (7).
18. Steering wheel.
19. Cam nut (2), torque to 41 Nm (30 Lbs. Ft.) and secure with nut retainer (1).
20. If so equipped, park lock cable into ignition switch inhibitor and snap in place as steering column is installed in car.
