SUB-SECTION ATURN SIGNAL CANCEL CAM ASSEMBLY,
DIMMER SWITCH ACTUATOR PIVOT ASSEMBLY,
TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY,
STEERING SHAFT ASSEMBLY,
BEARING ASSEMBLY,
JACKET BUSHING ASSEMBLY.
NOTICE: Steps 1 through 12 may be performed with the steering column in the vehicle. If the steering shaft assembly (20) is to be serviced (steps 13 through 21), remove the steering column from vehicle before proceeding with the following steps.

Housing Cover And Turn Switch Removal:
Buzzer Switch Wires, Removal:
Retaining Ring Removal:
Bearing Removal:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
Tool Required: J 35689-A Terminal Remover.
1. Retainer (1) and jam nut (2).
2. Steering wheel.
3. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (7).
4. Hazard knob screw (6).
5. Hazard warning knob (5).
IMPORTANT
Position turn signal switch (9) so that turn signal switch screws (8) and housing cover screw (3) can he removed through openings in switch.
6. Housing cover screw (3).
7. Column housing cover (4).
8. Actuator screw (19).
9. Dimmer switch actuator (18).
^ For cruise option disconnect wire connector.
10. Turn signal switch screws (8).
11. Wires on buzzer switch assembly (21) from turn signal connector with J 35689-A as shown. Wrap wire ends with tape to protect during removal and installation.
12. Turn signal switch assembly (9).
13. Twist and pull jacket bushing assembly (32) from lower end of the bowl and jacket assembly (24).
14. Place lock cylinder (25) in "Run" position.
15. Place opening in retaining ring (10) over flat on steering shaft (20).
^ Retaining ring (10) with screwdriver and discard.
16. Thrust washer (11), upper bearing spring (12) and remaining washer (11).
17. Steering shaft (20) from lower end of jacket and bowl assembly (24).
18. Housing screws (13).
19. Steering column housing (14).
20. Housing spacer (16).
21. Bearing (15) with drift and discard.
IMPORTANT
All fasteners in the following steps must be firmly seated before being tightened to specified torque.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lubricate bearing (15) with lithium grease.
^ Press bearing (15) into housing (14) with a 38 mm (1 1/2 In.) socket until bottomed.
2. Housing spacer (16).
3. Steering column housing (14).
4. Housing screws (13) and torque to 10 Nm (88 Lbs. In.).
5. Turn steering column lock cylinder set (25) to "Run" position and insert steering shaft (20) into the lower end of jacket and bowl assembly (24) until shaft (20) rests against bearing (15).
IMPORTANT
The shaft will extend 63 mm (2.5 In.) beyond the highest surface of steering column housing (14) when installed properly.
6. Thrust washer (11), upper bearing spring (12) and remaining thrust washer (11).
7. Wrap a 2 inch wide piece of shim stock 0.127 mm (0.005 In.) around the shaft and slip a new retaining ring (10) up to thrust washer (11). Use two long handled screwdrivers and push on retaining ring (10) until it seats in the retainer ring groove in shaft (20).
8. Discard shim stock.
9. Align tab on jacket bushing assembly (32) with V-groove on lower end of bowl and jacket assembly (24) and snap into position.
10. Turn signal switch assembly (9).
IMPORTANT
Position turn signal switch (9) so that turn signal switch screws (8) and housing cover screw (3) can be installed through openings in switch.
11. Turn signal switch screws (8) and torque to 4 Nm (35 Lbs. In.).
12. Wires from buzzer switch assembly (21) to signal switch connector body as follows:
^ Light green wire in location F.
^ Tan/black wire in location G.
13. Dimmer actuator assembly (18).
14. Actuator screw (19) and torque to 2.3 Nm (20 Lbs. In.).
15. Column housing cover (4).
16. Hazard warning knob (5).
17. Hazard knob screw (6) and torque to 0.8 Nm (7 Lbs. In.).
18. Housing cover screw (3) and torque to 4 Nm (35 Lbs. In.).
19. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (7).
20. Steering wheel.
21. Jam nut (2), torque to 41 Nm (30 Lbs. Ft.) and secure with nut retainer (1).
22. If so equipped, park lock cable into ignition switch inhibitor and snap in place as steering column is installed in car.
