Subject: DOOR TRIM MAP POCKET RETENTION

Model and Year: 1988-89 L CAR (BERETTA ONLY)
THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 89-180-10, DATED JUNE 1989. THE LABOR TIME HAS BEEN CORRECTED. ALL COPIES OF 89-180-10 SHOULD BE DISCARDED.

Some owners of 1988 (with passive restraints) and 1989 Berettas with map pockets on the drivers door trim panel may comment on the map pocket breaking loose at the lower forward hidden screw aftaching location. This screw, located under the forward edge of the map pocket, is covered by carpeting and MUST BE REMOVED PRIOR TO DOOR TRIM PAD REMOVAL.

Service Procedure:

To reinstall a loose or broken map pocket:

1. Remove door trim panel as outlined in the 1988-89 Service Manual, Body Section Page 10-5-4 and 5, and place on a clean flat surface.

2. Install two number 8 x 1/2 inch trim screws with 1/2 inch O.D. flat washers through the back side of the trim panel into the heat stakes. (See Illustration)

3. Drill a (1/8") hole, approximately 1/2 inch below area to where original retaining screw was located. (See Illustration)

IMPORTANT: A small amount of carpet will have to be removed to prevent the drill from becoming entangled in the carpet.

4. Install trim panel to door and raise glass to full up position, drill a 1/16" pilot hole into door inner panel through the hole drilled in map pocket in Step 3.

5. Drive a flat headed-self tapping 5/32 X 1 inch long screw through map pocket into door inner panel.
