Intercooler: Description and Operation

As the turbocharged air is warm and expanded, then intercooler cools and condenses it to improve engine intake efficiency. The relief valve, installed on the intercooler, opens when air pressure exceeds a specified pressure, to discharge the air to the atmosphere.
