Disassembly

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove countershaft bearing, see image, then the underdrive planetary sun gear from countershaft.
2. Remove snap ring from sun gear, then the snap ring from countershaft assembly.
3. Remove underdrive planetary gear, then the thrust needle bearing and race.
4. Remove drive pinion with output flange bearing inner race and spacer, using tool Nos. 09350-32013 and 09555-55010 or equivalent and a suitable press.
5. Remove ring gear retaining ring, then the ring gear.
6. Remove bearing, using tool No. 09950-00020, then drive out bearing outer race using a hammer and suitable drift.
7. Remove underdrive one-way clutch from drum, then the snap-ring from drum.
8. Remove flange, discs and plates.
9. Compress piston return spring using tool No. 09350-32013 and a suitable press, then remove snap ring.
10. Apply compressed air to oil passage and remove piston.
11. Shake piston to ensure freedom of movement of underdrive clutch piston check ball.
12. Ensure valve does not leak by applying compressed air.
13. Check sliding surfaces of and plate discs for wear and overheating, then replace as necessary.
