1. Open and prop hood.

Inspection

2. Water pump pulleys are stamped (on front face) with a 4-character production manufacturing date code which is visible on pulley as installed on vehicle (see Illustration). First two (2) characters are the date code. Last two (2) characters can be disregarded. Check date code to determine if replacement is required.

Character Position: 1 2 3 4

Sample date code: F 7 - -

Character Position #1 - Month Of Production

A = January E = May J = September
B = February F = June K = October
C = March G = July L = November
D = April H = August M = December

Note: Latter I is not used.

Character Position #2 - Year of pulley production

7 = 1987 8 = 1988

Character Positions #3 & #4 - Disregard

Therefore, sample date code "F 7 - -" equals June of 1987

If inspection indicates date code stamp F7, G7, H7, J7, K7 or L7, (i.e., pulleys built between June and November of 1987) replacement is required. Follow instructions under Pulley Replacement described below.

Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner.
