Model and Year: 1988 CHEVROLET CELEBRITY EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINE (RPO LR8, VIN CODE R)
To: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

General Motors has determined that certain 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity model vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine may have been produced with a water pump pulley that could fracture. This could result in loss of accessory drive components including power steering assist, generator and water pump. The engine will continue to run, but the driver would be warned of the failure by one or more of the following conditions:

A. Signal by generator light or gauge of loss of voltage.

B. Likelihood of noise at time of failure.

C. Signal by temperature light or gauge if engine overheats.

D. Loss of power steering assist.

To prevent this condition from occurring, dealers are to inspect the water pump pulley date code on all involved vehicles, and replace pulleys as required.
