This is a Preliminary Service Bulletin published to advise you of a condition for which a service procedure has been developed, but the necessary service parts are not yet immediately available. A regular Service Bulletin will supersede this publication as soon as the necessary service parts are available. In the interim, any efforts to address this condition should be limited to any obvious deficiencies or components. Upon receipt of the regular Bulletin, this copy should be discarded.
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Some 1987-88 B police cars equipped with 5.7L LM1 (VIN 6) engines may experience moderate to severe surge or bog down on WOT acceleration at high ambient temperatures after either an extended hot idle or a hot soak (typically an hour or somewhat less).
A service kit is being developed to address this condition. This kit will consist of a electric booster fuel pump, a revised carb bowl venting system, a carb bowl cooling fan and associated hardware.
