- A/C CONDENSER PIPE FATIGUE
Model and Year: 1989 "B" CARS W/5.7L (RPO L05) V8 ENGINE (SEO 9C1 POLICE OPTION) & 4.3L (RPO LB4) V6 ENGINE (SEO 9C6 TAXI CAB OPTION)
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
General Motors has determined that certain 1989 Chevrolet Caprice police and taxi cab fleets may experience fatigue of the air conditioning condenser inlet pipe. The compressor discharge hose/pipe assembly is too short and stiff to absorb engine roll and compressor vibration.
The fatigue resulting from this condition may lead to breakage of the inlet pipe, causing the discharge of the system's Freon and loss of vehicle air conditioning. To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers will install a new compressor discharge hose/pipe assembly and, if necessary, a new condenser.
