Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove air cleaner assembly, then disconnect T.V. cable from throttle body. Pull up cable cover at transaxle until cable is visible. Disconnect cable from transaxle rod.

3. Remove bolt attaching engine wire harness to transaxle.

4. Disconnect hose from air management valve to allow the engine wire harness to be pulled up and positioned aside.

5. Install engine support fixture J-28467 or equivalent, then raise engine slightly to relieve pressure from mounts.

6. Remove transaxle top mount and bracket assembly. If necessary, raise engine slightly to allow for removal.

7. Remove shift control linkage from transaxle.

8. Remove top transaxle to engine attaching bolts. Loosen bolt near starter but do not remove.

9. Unlock steering column, raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.

10. Assemble tools J-28468, J-33008 to J-29794 and J-261901, then position tool behind axle shaft cones to remove cones from transaxle.

11. Remove LH axle shaft Plug transaxle bore to prevent fluid leakage and dirt.

12. Remove nut attaching transaxle control cable to bracket to transaxle, then engine to transaxle stud.

13. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.

14. Disconnect transaxle stabilizer from front and rear of transaxle, then remove torque converter shield.

15. Remove three bolts attaching torque converter to flexplate.

16. Disconnect transaxle cooler line and plug openings to prevent leakage and dirt from entering system.

17. Loosen brake and fuel line brackets at LH side of underbody, bolts at RH transaxle brace, then remove transaxle dipstick filler tube.

18. Position a suitable jack under transaxle, then remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolt (near starter).

19. Remove transaxle from engine.

20. Reverse procedure to install.
