Clutch Pedal Assembly: Adjustments

Fig. 1 Clutch pedal adjustment:

1. Check height as shown in Fig. 1.
2. If it is necessary to adjust pedal height, remove instrument lower finish panel and air duct.
3. Loosen locknut and turn stopper bolt until the height is correct, then tighten lock nut.
4. Push in on clutch pedal until resistance is felt, then check pushrod and pedal freeplay. Pushrod play should be .039---.197 inch, while freeplay should be .51---.91 inch for 1985 vehicles, or .20---.59 inch for 1986---88 vehicles.
5. To adjust, loosen locknut and turn pushrod until freeplay and pushrod play are within specification, then tighten locknut.
6. Recheck pedal height and adjust as necessary.
7. Reinstall air duct and lower finish panel.
