Date: Nov., 1984
Subject: CHARGING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS THAT DO NOT HAVE A LOW SIDE CHARGING PORT ON THE ACCUMULATORDEHYDRATOR

Model and Year: 1985 CITATION

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

A number of vehicles were built at GMAD Willow Run without a low side charging port on the accumulator-dehydrator.

This problem was corrected with the following VIN numbers:

Chevrolet V6 Engine 1G1XX68X4FW100387
Chevrolet L4 Engine 1G1XX68R2FW100759

To charge a system without a low side charging port, follow the procedure as outlined:

1. Engine off, disconnect electrical connector from pressure switch. Remove pressure switch, evacuate and charge through pressure switch schrader valve fitting per service manual procedure.

2. If system cannot be fully charged with engine off, start engine and use compressor to assist charging process. Attach a fused jumper wire from compressor hot lead to positive (+) battery post to start compressor.

3. Once the charging process is complete, disconnect jumper and reconnect pressure switch and connector.
