Parts, Service Procedure, Campaign Label & Claim Information

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts required to complete this campaign are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO). To ensure these parts will be obtained as soon as possible, they should be ordered from GMSPO on a "C.I.O." order with no special instruction code, but on an advise code (2).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reference Figure 1.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable and set parking brake.

2. Remove shifter handle.

3. Remove console cover.

4. Disconnect wire harness.

5. Remove indicator housing and pointer from shifter assembly. Save for use on new assembly.

6. Disconnect park-lock cable from shifter bracket and pin.

7. Remove shifter assembly floor pan bolts (4).

8. Lift shifter assembly off floor pan and disconnect vertical shift link from horizontal link. Do not rotate horizontal link while disconnected as this will cause misadjustment.

9. Locate new shifter control assembly (P/N 14105608) through floor pan and reconnect vertical and horizontal shift links. Installation of clip and washer on pin may be simplified by temporarily moving transmission control lever into another position. Lubricate pin on vertical link prior to connection.

10. Attach new shifter assembly to floor pan and torque bolts 8 - 12 N-m. (6-9 ft.lb.).

11. Mount indicator needle and housing from removed assembly to new assembly. Torque nut 1.6 - 2.6 N-m. (1.2-2.0 ft.lb.) and torque screws to 2.2 - 3.0 N-m. (1.6 - 2.2 ft.lb.)
SERVICE PROCEDURE

12. Transfer neutral start switch from removed control assembly to new assembly. When removing switch from old assembly have shift lever in "Neutral" notch of the detent plate. Install switch on new assembly using following steps:

A. Position transmission shifter assembly in "Neutral" notch of detent plate.

B. Align hole in contact carrier with hole in switch housing and insert 2.35 mm diameter gauge pin to a depth of approximately 15.0 mm.

C. Mount switch over studs on detent plate with tang on shifter assembly installed into slot of switch. Tighten nuts to 1.6 - 2.2 N-m. (1.2 - 1.6 ft.lb.) and remove gauge pin.

13. Reconnect wire harness and park-lock cable to shifter bracket and pin.

14. Reinstall console cover and shifter handle. (NOTICE: 1983 vehicles will require a new handle P/N 10028884 and retainer P/N 10028352).

15. Check shift linkage, park-lock linkage and neutral start switch for proper operation.

16. Install Campaign Identification Label.



CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label". Each label provides a space to include the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.
Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner.

Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean dry surface.



CLAIM INFORMATION

Submit a Product Campaign Claim with the information indicated below.
* Campaign Administrative Allowance

** The "Parts Allowance" should be the sum total of the current GMSPO Dealer Net price plus 30% of all parts required for the repair.

Dealers will automatically receive the correct labor and material allowance based on the labor operation performed.
