ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET AND OIL FILTER INTERFERENCE

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
General Motors has determined that certain 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity and Citation models equipped with RPO's LE2(X) or LB6(W) 2.8L V6 engines may experience an interference condition between the engine mount bracket and the oil filter canister. This condition if not corrected can make it difficult to remove and replace the engine oil filter during scheduled maintenance intervals without removing the engine mount bracket.

Certain 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity and Citation models equipped with RPO's
LE2(X) or LB6(W) 2.8L V6 engines within the following vehicle parameters:

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Computer Listings. Computer listings contain the complete Vehicle Identification Number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to the involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with owners involved in this campaign.
These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the followup necessary to complete this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletins was not shipped any involved vehicles.
OWNER IDENTIFICATION
Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by Chevrolet Motor Division (see copy of Owner Letter included with this bulletin).
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.
Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.
Paint raw edge with black enamel.:
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Inspect clearance between engine mount bracket and engine oil filter (refer Illustration):
a. Vehicles with 3 mm (minimum) require no further work. Lower vehicle, raise hood and install Campaign completion label, close hood.
b. Vehicles with less than 3 mm clearance require rework. Proceed to Step 3.
3. Remove oil filter. Protect oil filter opening in engine case from metal filings and dirt.
4. Using a grinding wheel, grind off end of engine mount bracket to provide a (minimum) clearance of 3mm to oil filter (refer Illustration).
5. Remove protection from oil filter housing.
6. Reinstall oil filter. If original filter was damaged, install new filter (P/N 25010908).
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Raise hood, check oil level and fill as necessary.
9. Install campaign completion label and close hood.

*Campaign Administrative Allowance.
**The (Parts Allowance) should be the sum total of the current WDDGM Dealer Net price plus 30% for oil filter.
***The (Net Amount) will automatically be given for labor operation numbers V2491 and V2492 to cover the cost of (1) pint of engine oil used in conjunction with this modification.
Dealers will automatically receive the correct parts and labor allowance based on the Labor Operation performed.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL:
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL
Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the five digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.
Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner.
Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean dry surface.

REFER TO THE CURRENT CHEVROLET SERVICE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL AND CLAIMS PROCESSING MANUAL FOR CAMPAIGN HANDLING AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES.

General Motors has determined that some 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity and Citation models equipped with RPO LE2(X) or LB6(W) 2.8L V6 engines may experience an interference condition between the engine mount bracket and the oil filter canister. This condition if not corrected can make it difficult to remove and replace the engine oil filter during scheduled maintenance intervals without removing the engine mount bracket.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring on your vehicle, please contact your Chevrolet dealer to arrange a service date. Your dealer will modify the engine mount bracket and when required replace the oil filter. This service will be performed for you at no charge.
Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your Chevrolet dealer. The labor time required to make this modification is approximately 20 minutes. Parts when required are available at your dealer. Please allow additional time for your dealer to process your vehicle.
The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the correction in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us.
