Mainshaft









DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove 3-4 synchronizer assembly retaining ring from front of mainshaft, see figure. Slide washer, synchronizer assembly, synchronizer ring and 3rd speed gear from mainshaft.

2. Spread rear bearing retainer snap ring and slide retainer from mainshaft.

3. Remove rear bearing to mainshaft snap ring, see figure.

4. Using a suitable press, support mainshaft under 2nd gear and press mainshaft from rear bearing, 1st gear and sleeve, 1-2 synchronizer assembly, and the second gear.


ASSEMBLY
1. Slide 2nd speed gear onto rear of mainshaft with gear hub facing toward rear of shaft.

2. Install 1-2 synchronizer assembly (sliding synchronizer sleeve taper toward rear and hub to front) on mainshaft with a synchronizer ring on both sides of synchronizer assemblies.

3. Press 1st gear sleeve onto mainshaft until 2nd speed gear, synchronizer assembly and sleeve bottom against shoulder of mainshaft.

4. Install 1st speed gear with hub facing toward front and supporting inner race, press rear bearing onto mainshaft with snap ring groove toward front of transmission.

5. Install spacer and new selective fit snap ring in mainshaft behind rear bearing. se thickest snap ring that can be installed.

6. Install 3rd speed gear with hub to front of transmission, then the 3rd speed synchronizing ring with notches to front of transmission.

7. Install 3-4 speed synchronizing assembly with the taper facing toward front. Make sure that keys in hub correspond with notches in 3rd speed synchronizing ring.

8. Install new selective fit snap ring in groove in mainshaft in front of 3-4 speed synchronizer assembly. Use thickest snap ring that can be installed.

9. Install rear bearing retaining (reverse housing) over end of mainshaft Spread snap ring to drop around rear bearing. Release snap ring when it aligns with groove in rear housing.
