Checking Countergear Endplay

1. Place transmission case on side.

2. Place countergear tanged thrust washers in position and retain with heavy grease. Make sure that tangs enter notches in case.

3. Place countergear in bottom of transmission case.

4. Place transmission case resting on front face.

5. Lubricate and insert countergear shaft, pushing dummy shaft out front of case, until woodruff key slot is in installed position.

6. Install a dial indicator, see figure, and check endplay. Endplay should be 0.025 inch. If endplay is greater, new thrust washer must be installed.
