Assemble
1. Install tanged countergear thrust washers using heavy grease to retain washers. Make sure that tangs enter notches in case.
2. Place countergear in bottom of case.
3. Install front reverse idler gear with teeth facing forward, and thrust washer in case. Use heavy grease to hold thrust washer in position.
4. Install 16 roller bearings and washer into main drive gear. Use heavy grease to retain.
5. Install drive gear on mainshaft assembly. Position 3-4 synchronizer sliding sleeve forward.
6. Install new reverse housing to case gasket on rear of case.
7. Install mainshaft and drive gear assembly into case.
8. Install bearing snap ring on front main bearing. Using a suitable tool, tap front main bearing into case. Install spacer washer and selective fit snap ring to secure main drive bearing.
9. Raise countergear and slide counter gear shaft through rear of case. Install woodruff key and tap shaft into case until flush with rear face of case.
10. Align reverse housing and gasket with transmission case, install locating pin and tap pin inward until flush with housing.
11. Install reverse housing to case bolts.
12. Install reverse shift shaft and O-ring into housing, then the retaining pin.
13. Install reverse gear and shift fork Slide gear and fork forward on mainshaft until fork and shifter shaft can be indexed into position.
14. Install rear reverse idler gear, aligning splines with front gear.
15. Assemble overdrive unit to reverse housing. Guide idler shaft on overdrive unit into idler gears and align splines on mainshaft with splines of input sun gear. Slide units together and install retaining bolts.
16. Slide 1-2 synchronizer forward into 2nd gear. Install shift forks into grooves of synchronizers. Place side cover with gasket on transmission. Guide shift forks into cover and install retaining bolts.
