Overdrive Switch Replace

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove instrument cluster trim plate attaching screws, then remove headlight switch knob, tilt column lever and trim plate.

3. Remove instrument panel accessory trim plate attaching screws, then the plate.

4. Remove console trim plate attaching screws, pull trim plate rearward, then disconnect cigar lighter electrical lead.

5. Remove shift boot to trim plate attaching screws, then the trim plate.

6. Carefully pry overdrive switch button from shifter knob.

7. Disconnect overdrive switch rod from shifter. Count the number of turns required to disconnect rod, to aid installation.

8. Loosen overdrive switch to shifter retaining nut, then remove the switch and slide block. Use care to prevent losing slide block return spring.

9. Disconnect switch electrical lead, then remove switch to slide block retaining pin.

10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. When installing switch rod, screw rod into switch block the same number of turns noted during removal.

b. After installing shift button, ensure that button is flush with top of shift knob. If not, remove button and turn rod in or out as required.
